Information on Nebraska Evangelical Lutheran High School



Location: Nebraska Lutheran is located in Waco, NE; about 45 minutes from the state capital of Lincoln.


Accreditation: Nebraska Lutheran received accreditation from the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod School Accreditation (WELSSA) in 2009.


Services for International Students: Mr. Mark Otte, school administrator and Pastor Seth Haakenson, campus pastor act as coordinators for our international students. They work with international students, their families, and representing agencies on I-20s, transportation from the Lincoln Airport, and class schedules for first-time international students.


Housing for Students: Nebraska Lutheran provides separate boys’ and girls’ dormitory facilities on-campus. The majority of the student body (both American and international) live in the dorms, which are supervised by licensed teachers.


Airports: International students can fly into Lincoln Airport, about 45 minutes from Waco. Transportation from the airport will be arranged by Mr. Otte and Pastor Haakenson.


School Year Calendar: Classes begin in late-August and finish in mid-May. Camps for football, volleyball, and cheerleading take place prior to the start of classes in August.


Courses for International Students: Nebraska Lutheran offers English as a Second Language (ESL) class for those students needing more preparation in the English language. A Bible Information Class (BIC) is required for new international students to learn the basic teachings of the Bible.


Advanced Placement Courses: Nebraska Lutheran offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Calculus and Advanced Government.  Additional Advanced Placement Courses are offered through our on-line program.


Other Courses: Nebraska Lutheran offers a variety of elective courses including two years of Latin, four years of Spanish, Digital Media, and Government.


Planning for College: Students can seek help from Nebraska Lutheran’s college advisor, Mrs. Kathy Stern.


SAT: Nebraska Lutheran offers the SAT on-campus twice each academic year, usually in November and January.

Extracurriculars: There are a wide variety of extracurricular activities in which students can participate:
     Sports
          Fall—Football, volleyball, and cheerleading
          Winter—Basketball (for both boys and girls) and cheerleading
          Spring—Track and soccer (both sports for boys and girls)
