NELHS Info

Nebraska Ev. Lutheran High School (NELHS) is a Christ-centered high school serving young men and women in grades 9-12. Located in Waco, NE, Nebraska Lutheran High School is situated on the “Crossroads of the Midwest” where I-80 and the I-35/Hwy 81 corridor bisect. Thus, we are easily accessible to all points in the Midwest. We are also connected via a four lane expressway to all the major population centers in Texas, Oklahoma City, Tulsa & Wichita—an expressway that reaches within five miles of our school. We are approximately an hour’s drive from two major airports in Lincoln and Omaha.

NELHS is owned and operated by an association of 47 congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) located in six states in the upper Midwest, primarily in Nebraska. A thirteen member board oversees the operation of the school. It began its first academic year in 1979. NELHS has students enrolled from around the United States and the world through its International Program.

NELHS is an accredited school, and our credits are accepted by colleges and universities throughout the country.

NELHS is a member of the Crossroads Conference which sponsors competition in volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ track, speech, drama, choir, band, and quiz bowl. NELHS is also a member of the WELS Association of Lutheran High Schools.

NELHS has a certified staff of 12 instructors. With an excellent teacher/pupil ratio, the school has always been grateful for the individual attention it can give to its students and for the quality Christian education it is privileged to provide. As a Christ-centered college preparatory school, over ninety percent of its graduates continue their education at a college or university campus.

NELHS has achieved many academic awards including state championship status in the University of Nebraska—Lincoln math competition, several years of championships in the Martin Luther College Meet Math competition and consistently high test scores. Technology is also a priority. The entire campus has high speed wired & wireless internet access. Each student is issued a laptop.

Dormitories

NELHS operates a separate boys’ and girls’ dormitory. They are supervised by dorm supervisors. Over eighty percent live in the two dormitories. A regular schedule of meals, study times, bed times and other considerations are part of dorm life. Controlled wired and wireless internet telephone access is available in all dorm rooms.

Worship

Christian worship is important at NELHS. Chapel services are held every weekday morning and evening. Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church of York is pleased to have students attend Bible class and worship with them for Sunday services.
