About NELHS

NELHS exists to assist parents and congregations by providing Christian training in the skills and values necessary for loyal, lifelong service to Jesus Christ.

General Info

NELHS is a Christ centered high school serving young men and women grades 9-12. It is located on the "Crossroads of the Midwest" where I-80 and the I-35/Hwy 81 corridor bisect. Thus it is easily accessible to all points in the Midwest as well as the major population centers in Texac, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Wichita and are an hours drive from two major airports in Lincoln and Omaha.

NELHS is owned and operated by an association of 49 congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) located primarily in Nebraska. An eighteen member board oversees the operation of the school. It began its first academic year in 1979. In its 31st year of operation, NELHS has students enrolled from around the United States and the world through its International Program.

Academics and Activities

NELHS is recognized by the Nebraska State Department of Education as an approved school. Credits are accepted by all colleges and universities. As a Christ-centered college preparatory school, over ninety percent of its graduates continue their education on a college or university campus.
NELHS has achieved many academic awards including state championship status in the University of Nebraska - Lincoln math competition, several years of championships at the Martin Luther College Meet Math competition and leadership in conference academic honor roll.

Living on Campus

NELHS operates a separate boys' and girls' dormitory. They are supervised by the Dean of students, two male and two female supervisors. About thirteen percent of the students are commuters while the rest call the dormitories their home. A regular schedule of meals, study times, bed times and other considerations are part of dorm life. Controlled Wi-Fi and wired high speed internet access and telephones are provided in the all dorm rooms.

Christian worship is important at NELHS. Chapel services are held every weekday morning and evening. Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church of York is pleased to have students worship with them for Sunday services.
